Invitation to Happiness by Yu Qing Cheng from China, Special Exhibition in Commemoration of Opening of Toyasim 2010

Clay figures full of satire and humor by Yu Qing Cheng, Folk Arts and Crafts Master of China

Yu Qing Cheng, Folk Arts and Crafts Master of China, creates striking sculptures with clay he collects from the corn fields around his house.
His figurines express the vicissitudes and hardships of life of modern people with joyful wit and humor as well as outstanding talent.
Invitation to Happiness by Yu Qing Cheng presents works that tell stories about common people, based on respect for nature as ‘we come from nature and return to nature.’ Yi’s own life experiences are naturally expressed through clay.

That emotions and characteristics of human beings delicately expressed in sculptures were made in such a short time with instinctual inspiration of the artist makes this exhibition all the more fascinating.

This exhibition presenting Yu Qing Cheng, China’s most representative clay artist and sculpture, who was honored by UNESCO as a “Folk Arts and Crafts Master” is the first exhibition to be held in Korea under the MOU on cultural exchange between the Korea Ceramics Foundation, Chinese Association of Folk Artists, and Chinese Ceramics Association.

Love for Life, Smiles of Humor
Grasping the moment in daily life of an ordinary family, a grandmother and her grandson, parents and children, Yu expresses the meaning of life that we forget and take for granted humorously and metaphorically through contemplation in his own unique way.

Bold eroticism
His sensual expression of the female body emphasizes the profound love of a mother towards her children.
Far from being obscene or vulgar, it brings joy to the viewer. It is joyful

Wit and humor from simplicity
With minimal movement and simplicity rendered in clay, Yu depicts the aesthetics of a smile unique to the Orient.
As if dancing to joyful music, the movements of hands and feet of his figurines embody fun and pleasure, making the viewer smile
