The 2013, 7th Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale (GICB 2013), International Ceramic Workshop Mentoring Camp assembles internationally distinguished artists, to conduct mentoring workshops through networking with different artists as mentees. It sets a new paradigm for the GICB 2013 by establishing a ground for creative exchange and collaboration going beyond tradition and new methods, east and west, new and old generations and even art genres.
It is a means to connect artists together, also involving the local artists of the Icheon area through networking by establishing a global and local connection.
There are 3 parts to the Mentoring Camp Workshop:
Mentoring Camp I, International Ceramic Workshop Part I, titled (International Ceramic Camp - Encountering the World) consists of a Short-term Residency program and a Forum Workshop. For the Short-term Residency program, artists form the International Prize of GICB 2013, main exhibition, will participate to share their long developed knowledge and experience, and their international tact with young artists as mentees. The Forum Workshop involves prize winners of previous Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale events and the international committee members as mentors to hold demonstrations and seminar sessions.
Mentoring Camp II, International Ceramic Workshop Part II, (Traditional Korean Ceramic Camp - Beyond Tradition) is a special venue providing the opportunity to learn about the history and the aesthetics of Korean ceramics, simultaneously as focusing deep into the inherent qualities of this particularly culture.
Finally as a workshop event, GICB 2013 has prepared a one-off food and ceramics related venue for everyone to enjoy and to share the practical nature and significance of ceramics. It hopes to encourage people to stop using disposal wares and focus more on using ceramic utilitarian wares.
In a period where internet and IT industry is highly developed, communicative methods are more important than ever. The Mentoring Camp provides the opportunity for young artists to reciprocally learn from established artists to advance forward with their art careers.
