Functional Ceramics by One Hundred Korean Artists <CERAMIC : BLOSSOM>

  • Duration : March 15 ~ May 26, 2019
  • Location : Yeoju World Ceramic Livingware Gallery, 1st floor Gallery 2 & all 2nd floor Galleries

The exhibition Functional Ceramics by One Hundred Korean Artists <CERAMIC : BLOSSOM> invites eleven artists based in Yeoju, Gyeonggi-do to present the sentiments and energy of spring through an exhibition that brings together spring-themed ceramics, food, and flowers.

Presenting its 9th edition this year since the first show in April 2012, the relay invitational exhibition Functional Ceramics by One Hundred Korean Artists displays the works of one hundred Korean ceramic artists over the course of the exhibition, each recognized for their artistic talent. More than sixty ceramic artists have participated in this relay show thus far.

This year’s exhibition is divided into two sections, the first of which is titled “Spring in Everyday Life” and the second, “Spring Passing.” The themes explored in these two sections focus on the sentiments and energy of spring found in everyday life and the different stages of the spring season. Food stylist Baik Hye-won and florist Park Min Jung join this year’s show to deliver “spring scents” through the harmonious presentation of food, flowers and ceramics.

In the first section, “Spring in Everyday Life,” five ceramic artists’ spring-related works are featured along with food presentation by the food stylist Baik Hye-won. Gentle touches of spring can be felt through the seemingly plain ceramic wares that could be found in our everyday lives. The second section, titled “Spring Passing,” showcases the works of six ceramic artists that reflect their contemplations on the season, presented with flower arrangement by Park Min Jung. This coordinated display of ceramics and flowers traces the changes brought by the passing of time, from the beginning of spring to summer in the following order: “Life Sprouting,” “Brilliant Flower Buds,” “Room of Warmth,” “Seeds,” “Full Bloom,” and “Summer, Once Again.”

Unfortunately, the long-awaited spring arrived with a veil of fine dust this year. We hope this exhibition will serve to cheer up visitors and also function as a unique opportunity for communication between the audience and the artists who continue to produce functional ceramics and objects that reflect the energy of spring.
