The theme of the 2015 Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale is “Color: Ceramic Spectrum”. The definition of “color” has been broadened to include color as a material characteristic as well as part of the uniqueness and character of an object. This expresses not only the beauty of ceramic art produced through the spectrum of colors but also the “uniqueness” of a work of ceramic art that results from the emotional connection between the artist and the public.
Based on this renewed concept, the 2015 Biennale attempts to highlight the color of ceramic art through three themes that each symbolizes the past, present, and future: “Traditional Color”, the traditional values embedded in Korean and East Asian ceramics; “Distinctive Color”, a pursuit of the broadening of ceramic art as a genre, in addition to its interpretation; and “Variegated Color,” which refers to the diverse uses and stories of ceramics that enrich our everyday lives.
Through the 2015 Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale, we hope that you are able to rediscover ceramic art, which has existed as long as human history, as an embodiment of the lasting values in the art and spirit of our generation.
