Greetings

Ceramics is art created by earth, water, and fire.
If we take a close look at these three elements of the creation of ceramics, we can see each is unique.

Earth, land on which ‘other living things’ depend for living and take nourishment, is like ‘mother’s arms’ reaching out to embrace everything and giving unsparingly.

Water flows from higher to lower levels, and when it encounters an obstacle, it makes a detour by flowing round, and it is for this reason that it symbolizes ‘reconciliation and coexistence,’ which implies humbling oneself and avoiding conflicts.

Fire brings things people need by giving itself completely and selflessly, so it symbolizes ‘sacrifice and service,’ implying that it throws itself completely into the service of others.

In order for ceramics created by these three elements to be perfect works of art, it also needs strong spirit.

By strong spirit, I mean the spirit of the three pillars of the ceramic industry of Gyeonggi-do Province: ceramic artists, industrialists in ceramics and local governments, and the Korea Ceramic Foundation, all communicating, cooperating, and working together for the common good.

The Korean Ceramic Foundation is committed to building a system for cooperation through communication to fully reflect the opinions of ceramists and those engaged in the ceramic industry and to support them as necessary, ultimately that they can effectively engage in creation, production, distribution, and sales.

The Foundation will establish an environment supportive and conducive to cooperation to make the quality of life of ceramists better and to further the development of the regional economy, while preventing overlapping of projects by local governments.

Now, I take a first step as I envision the next 20 years taking huge leap, while ruminating on the past 20 years of the KOCEF and preparing for the 10th KICB.
